One month of teaching, then six months of internship — three unpaid, then three paid. Take the course at Behala or live online. The internship is on the floor, with real instruments and supervised patients.
On successful completion, a candidate will be able to
Describe the structure and function of the human eye and the conditions commonly encountered in practice
Conduct a complete vision screening and record its findings accurately
Read, interpret and verify a spectacle prescription
Select, measure, fit and adjust spectacles to a prescribed specification
Operate and maintain the instruments in routine use
Recognise findings that require referral, and act on them within a defined scope of practice
Conduct a professional consultation and maintain accurate clinical and commercial records
Two study modes
Choose offline or online when you apply. There is no mixed section. Certificates and assessments are the same.
Behala campus
Offline
The 1-month course and the six-month internship are at 22/1, Brojomani Debya Road. Theory, instruments and supervised patients in the same working optical practice.
The 1-month course is live online. The internship is not. Unpaid and paid internship months are on the Behala floor — instruments and patients are not taught through a screen.
One month of teaching: the sciences, the vocabulary, and the first supervised procedures. This is the month the fee covers.
Offline: Classroom at Behala. Online: Live lecture.
Months 2–4 · Unpaid
Unpaid internship
Three months on the floor after the course. No wage. Supervised laboratory and store practice. This is training, not employment.
Offline: Internship at Behala. Online: Campus internship block.
Months 5–7 · Paid
Paid internship
Three further months, now paid. The wage is set with the host practice and is not part of the course fee. Patient work stays supervised. This is not a job offer.
Offline: Paid internship at Behala. Online: Campus internship block.
All patient-facing activity in Phase 3 is under direct supervision of qualified personnel, within a defined scope of practice. Candidates do not diagnose, prescribe, or attend patients unsupervised. Informed consent is obtained for all training involving patients.
